Founded by chef Steven Pham, SF's beloved Turtle Tower’s simple, authentic Northern Vietnamese cuisine—particularly its pho—is iconic. After more than 24 years serving the Tenderloin, the restaurant closed in 2023. But now, it’s beginning a new chapter in the historic heart of downtown SF.
Turtle Tower’s return not only preserves a vital piece of the city's culinary history, it breathes new life into a place of significant historical value. The more than 100-year-old building offers the perfect setting for its revival. Rumored to be comedian Ali Wong's favorite restaurant in town, Turtle Tower specializes in clean, simple flavors and dishes from the Hanoi region—and yes, you can still get that classic bowl of pho. Other specialties include rice noodle soups, fresh spring rolls, bánh mì, and savory bánh cuốn (steamed rice rolls).
