When a tiny, light-filled space in the heart of San Francisco’s Marina became available in 2023, Joe Hargrave and Mike Barrow, the duo behind Tacolicious, knew their oyster bar dream was finally coming true.
Named after Joe’s dad, a retired sea captain, Popi’s Oysterette was inspired by two SF oyster bar favorites: tiny but mighty Anchor in the Castro and the iconic Swan Oyster Depot.
The kitchen, which favors seasonality and sustainability, is open, and the dining room is cozy. Grab a stool at the counter, order a dozen oysters on the half shell, and chat with the friendly staff. Seafood classics like Dungeness crab Louie, crispy calamari, creamy clam chowder, and fish and chips, are kept simple and taken seriously.
