Mi Sueño’s inspirational tale is both a love story and the story of the American dream realized—one that Mexican immigrant Rolando Herrera achieved through hard work, raw talent, and the support of a strong community of mentors.
Herrera began as a modest dishwasher at the exclusive Auberge du Soleil restaurant in 1982. He went on to work for a laundry list of Napa Valley’s top wineries, from the legendary Warren Winiarski, founder of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, to local great Paul Hobbs, harnessing his work ethic and his love of farming and wine with each move.
Herrera and his wife Lorena—whose family has deep grape-growing roots in Napa and Sonoma counties—founded Mi Sueño Winery in 1997, the same year they married. Together, they’ve built their dream with love and passion, growing exceptional grapes and crafting elegant, award-winning wines. ‘‘Farming and making wine is not science,” says Herrera. “It’s experience.”
